Organic Thought has worked with traditional indeginous communities in Peru and Bolivia to design clothes that are culturally meaningful to the families who knit them yet appealing and stylish to Canadian consumers The families implement traditional techniques and incorporate ancient iconography into the patterns. Each producer's home is visited in person to insure quality and style.

The Cause: Poverty
Forced into poverty and isolation, many families in Peru and Bolivia have found themselves relying on knitting to make ends meet. Knitting is the only skill that these families have to earn an income. The practice is also culturally important as it is used to teach children basic mathematics, geography and history of the culture. To help these families acheive long term solutions to their social and economical problems, this website offers a much needed market for them to sell their clothing.

Fair Trade: Trade fair to all
What is Fair Trade? Fair Trade is the effort to help alleviate disadvantaged or marginalized people from poverty. Through sustainable development and fair wages, these people are empowered to improve their own living conditions and plan for a better future. Organic Thought has made a commitment to work with these families in Peru and Bolivia under fair trade principles, to pay them a fair price and allow them to improve their living conditions through commercial trade.

Alpaca: Natural Organic Fleece
Unlike Sheep wool, alpaca fleece is very soft,warm, non-hypoallergenic, light and breathable. The fleece for these items are sheered from semi-wild alpacas that roam the high mountains of Bolivia. The animals are free-range, and are only exposed to an organic enivironment. In addition, the softness of the fleece makes Alpaca clothing comfortable even for the most sensitive skin. These items make the perfect gift for environemtally or socially conscious people.
