- History:
- Teofila Noa and Jose Apasa began making scarves together since they were married. They currently have three children, Eugenia (13), Alan (11) and Richard (2). The art of making scarves runs very deep into Teofila's family heritage. Her father weaved scarves ever since she was a child. Today she and all three of her brothers followed in their fathers footsteps. Like Teofila, the three brothers each have their own shops making scarves.
- Duration:
- 6-7 hours for 1 scarf
- Process:
- First, the baby alpaca wool is purchased from a local supplier and dyed. The wool is then spun into a very fine thread. The process of spinning is repeated to insure the thread is very fine. This process may take upto three hours. Then the thread is placed on a loom (see picture). Sixto operates the loom with one foot controlling the loom and the hands handling the textile.
