How does my puchase help disadvantaged people?
The goal of Organic Thought is to create oppurtunities for disadvantaged families. The objective is to help these families acheive long term solutions to their social and economical problems by creating an online market for them to sell their clothing. With the on introduction of Globalization, traditional communities in Peru and Bolivia are forced to either abandon their villages and move to big cities, or travel great distances to sell their handmade clothes. These families work very hard to use their limited skills to survive. They spend years cultivating alpacas, and weeks cleaning, spinning, dyeing and knitting the alpaca wool. Even after all this hard work receive very little pay for their hard work from tourists shops. Sometimes they are not even assured any pay at all as the market is flouded with struggling knitters. Weaving and knitting are traditions of Peruvian and Bolivian culture and the proud practice is widespread. Unfortunatley, there is less demand for handmade clothing in Peru and Bolivia these days and more of a demand for "Westernized" goods. The goal of Organic Thought is to sell their handmade goods online so they can create better opputunities for their families, improve their living conditions and hopefully allow their children to become educated and skilled in practices that will allow them to become much more sustainable.
