Organic Thought is not only committed to providing ethical trade for producers and consumers, but also committed to their health and welfare. That is why we have made a commitment to sell organic products. Below is a list of possible issues we attempt to address:
ORGANIC WOOL
Organic Thought is not only committed to providing ethical trade for producers and consumers, but also committed to respecting Mother Nature during the process. The alpacas that provide the fleece for these clothings are free-range and consume only organic wild grass. Living in rugged conditions and such high altitude, agricultural activity is very limited and as a result the use of chemicals serves no purpose. In addition, not only are chemicals far too expensive for these traditonal communities, but the spiritual, cultural, and community beleifs allow them to resist the use of such non-traditional practices. Alpaca primarily graze on wild grass, which is abundant in their environment.
YOUR HEALTH
Considering that 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies, it is vital to question what we expose our bodies to. Textile acid dye processes typically require high levels of chemicals, many of which have been classified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as being of moderate to high concern as carcinogens.
THE PRODUCERS HEALTH
For the safety of the local communities, it is very important that the product does not involve the use of chemicals. Since people who make the products live in such remote places, they are very dependant on the natural resources in their own habitat for survival. Therefore, the use of chemicals or pollutants has a rapid and harmful effect on their health. For example, during the dyeing process, textiles are washed in the local stream the communities uses as drinking water and as a result any chemicals used in the colouring fabric is consumed directly by the entire population.
CONSERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
In addition, it is important to offer consumers material that they can be assure does not harm the natural environment. The toxins and pesticides used in processing textiles end up in the environment and pollute the air and surface waters. Also, the absence of such chemicals also insures land and soil is sustainable and viable for the future.
ANIMALS WELL BEING
In addition, the animals that provide the fleece are free-range and consume only organic wild grass. Living in rugged conditions and such high altitude, agricultural activity is very limited and as a result the use of chemicals serves no purpose. Alpaca primarily graze on wild grass, which is abundant in their environment, and the animal’s loyal personality always assures the animal is available when freed to roam.
